About Me
My Background

I grew up in Michigan with my parents and my sister who is two years older than I am. Although my parents both worked full time, we spent a lot of time together as a family. Instead of watching TV, we would play family games and play in the yard. They helped me understand the value of active play-both physically and mentally. My parents always made games out of learning. I also greatly enjoyed our many family vacations to new and interesting places. I have so many happy memories of growing up and I work to create them with other children as well.

My parents believed in raising mature, conscientious and respectful individuals. My sister and I always had responsibilities at home. I remember making a game out of folding clothes as a little child and learning from my dad how to wash the car. I also learned how to reason for myself and weigh the pros and cons of different decisions. I learned how to be independent, but I always know that I have the support of my family. These are the beliefs and qualities that guide my interactions with children.

I have always loved working with children. I come from a large extended family and grew up with younger children around me. Starting in middle school, I began babysitting for other families and have been loving it ever since. Although in the summer time during high school my sister would get a business internship, I was much happier as a full time nanny for a family. I continued working as a family babysitter while I was getting both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I thoroughly enjoyed these long term relationships as I watched the children grow and helped them develop into confident, caring kids.

I earned a masters degree in education and thought that I would enjoy being a classroom teacher. I have found that I prefer the smaller interactions with just a few children. I feel that through more personalized interactions, I can use my education and child development knowledge to make a more significant difference in children’s lives. I have a passion for working with children. I would love to share that passion with your family.

Recreation
In general I love outdoorsy and active activities. I earned 11 varsity letters in field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse in high school and played lacrosse in college. I like going on hikes, running, biking, skiing, backpacking and water sports.
I believe in continual learning. I enjoy traveling throughout the world and learning about other cultures. I love learning a bit of a new language before visiting other countries.
In addition to being a people-person I love being around animals. My husband and I have a mini goldendoodle, Einstein, whom we trained to be a therapy dog. He is very social, highly trained and well behaved.
